How can leaders ensure their teams are not just on board with the digital transformation, but actively engaged and motivated throughout the process?

The answer to that question comes down to motivation:

When individuals believe they have made a positive contribution, they are likely to want to continue because receiving recognition for their efforts feels rewarding. This is no different in a transformation than in any other aspect of life.

How can leaders ensure their teams are not just on board with the digital transformation, but actively engaged and motivated throughout the process?

Instead, the key question lies in facilitating those initial positive contributions. While my recommendations may seem straightforward, remember that truly impactful ideas are seldom easy to generate.

MY RECOMMENDATION ARE:

✦ Tap into your team's expertise - ask for their ideas on the transformation.

✦ Show interest and value the ideas of your team, only then ideas will flow.

✦ Work with your team to develop and optimize ideas. This does not mean that you spend countless hours in workshops with everyone on your team. Integrate regular brainstorming sessions into your team meeting agenda to collaboratively develop and refine ideas. Frame these brainstorming sessions as an open space for creativity, ensuring transformation topics are a regular agenda item to keep discussions flowing freely. That way it does not feel like an extra workload.

✦ Align your team's interests with the transformation goals. By understanding what motivates them, you can unlock their potential to contribute meaningfully.

✦ Small changes are a good start for a team that is trying to find ways to make a positive contribution to a global transformation initiative.

✦ Most importantly, advocate for your team's ideas and prevent them from being forgotten. This is not an easy task as getting buy-ins for an idea requires a lot of persuasion from a leader. This skill is a crucial leadership skill in a transformation to keep your team motivated.

👉 Finally, make successful contributions of your team visible, so that they get the recognition they deserve. This fosters lasting motivation, a positive culture, and trust in your leadership abilities.

When your team experiences change as positive, they open up for change and actively engage in a transformation.
