Motivation and enthusiasm play a crucial role in the transformation process. Some may prefer concentrating on transformation goals and milestones, dismissing the importance of motivation and enthusiasm as mere trivialities. However, it is essential to recognize their transformative power.
Achievements Keep the Transformation Alive
The vitality of a transformation relies on a sense of accomplishment. Each success motivates employees to sustain the transformation, while without achievements, employees may lose confidence in the success of the endeavor.

What to do
▶︎ Set milestones achievable within a few weeks, encouraging widespread employee participation. This creates a sense of accomplishment, fostering stronger employee identification with the transformation.
▶︎ Eliminate turf wars. These conflicts impede a transformation like nothing else and consume immense energy until motivation and hope are lost. Bring these conflicts to light to be taken care of. I understand that senior management isn’t keen on investing time in these sometimes ridiculous arguments, especially after bringing in pricey talent to do the transformation. But the truth is, only the top management can put an end to turf wars. If not, they’ll drag on endlessly, sabotaging the transformation.
▶︎ Your leaders play a crucial role in amplifying the transformation, so choose wisely who fills these positions. They should be individuals with a genuine desire for change and the ability to inspire others to follow suit. Keep in mind that the transformation won’t progress beyond a manager who is not in favor of the transformation.
▶︎ Addressing the fear of change is important, as it stands as a huge barrier to the change itself.
▶︎For people to engage in the transformation, it’s essential to listen to their ideas. If you don’t, they’ll lose interest in your ideas and stick to their current tasks and processes, which goes against the essence of a transformation.
▶︎Top-down or bottom-up? Only together!!! The belief that a transformation can only happen in a top-down manner is flawed. While it does require top-down enforcement, solely relying on this approach may result in pushback, preventing the successful transformation. It is crucial to find a middle ground between top-down and bottom-up approaches. This ensures an inclusive transformation that considers everyone’s input and promotes teamwork. This balanced approach increases the likelihood of success and encourages a culture of shared responsibility.
👉 The most challenging aspect of a transformation is keeping people engaged. Thus, it’s crucial to prioritize the importance of motivation and enthusiasm. Sounds like a banality but it is not! People are paramount for the dynamic of a transformation.
